DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the CSU chooses an annual campaign to inform and mobilize students on an issue of current relevance that affects our students and their larger communities. This year\, we’ve chosen to focus our efforts on fighting anti-Black racism and police brutality against Black and Indigenous peoples\, as well as supporting the ongoing work of the Black Lives Matter movement and initiatives by and for Black and Indigenous students in the Concordia community. Our goal is ultimately for this campaign to be a community-led effort. This will be our second town hall on this subject this school year. We hope that this town hall can be a place of community consultation\, where students and community members will have the opportunity to hear about what the CSU is currently doing to support community demands around Black Lives Matter at the institutional\, educational\, and systemic levels\, and to provide input regarding what they would like to see come out of this campaign. But what exactly does that mean?\nJessica Quijano will be joining us on behalf of the Defund the SPVM coalition to aid in demystifying this concept and will give us some examples as to what this would mean in a Montreal context. DESCRIPTION:What should you do if you get stopped by the cops? What if the protest you’re at is declared illegal? This workshop will equip you with basic legal information as it relates to your activism and social justice work\, and orient you toward available resources that will empower you to know your rights and keep fighting for what’s right!\nThis workshop will be given by Me Arij Riahi\, a Montreal lawyer with deep roots in grassroots and social justice work.
